Mt. 12:15a But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there; and great multitudes followed Him.
Mk. 3:7 But Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea. And a great multitude from Galilee followed Him, and from Judea.
Mk. 3:8 And Jerusalem and Idumea and beyond the Jordan; and those from Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they heard how many things He was doing, came to Him.
Mk. 3:9 And He told His disciples that a small boat should be kept ready for Him because of the multitude, lest they crush Him.
The main point of this segment is to note the rising interest of the people in Yeshua and His message. This is no longer just of local interest, but His teaching is traveling far and wide. This is another indication of His acceptance by the common people of Israel, because it is they who are spreading the word about Him. Also the Bible says that a great multitude followed Him. There is no record of any other rabbi in Israel accomplishing this. The people know that something out of the ordinary is happening here.
Mt. 12:15b And He healed them all.
Mk. 3:10 For He healed many, so that as many as had afflictions pressed about Him to touch Him.
Mk. 3:11 And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw Him, fell down before Him and cried out, saying, “You are the Son of God.”
Mt. 12:16 And He warned them not to make Him known.
Mk. 3:12 But He sternly warned them that they should not make Him known.
This segment again demonstrates His authority over demons. Why does He command them to be silent about who He is? Very simply, demons do not make good character witnesses.
Mt. 12:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying,
Mt. 12:18 “Behold, My servant, whom I have chosen, My beloved in whom My soul is well pleased; I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He will declare justice to the Gentiles.”
Even the Hebrew word for judgment (or justice) can mean salvation. In the same way, the judges of the Old Testament were saviors or deliverers of the people, and not judges in the modern sense of the word.
