Segment No. 040 -- Mt. 4:13-16

Title:  The New Home in Capernaum

Mt. 4:13   And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulon and Naphtali.

As a result of His rejection in Nazareth, Yeshua now established His headquarters in Capernaum. Capernaum is a strategic city in the Galilee, because it is along the north shore of the Sea of Galilee, the most famous trade route in the ancient world (also known as the Via Mares).

Mt. 4:14  That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying,
Mt. 4:15   “The land of Zebulon and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;”
Mt. 4:16   “The people who sat in darkness saw a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.”

Source: Isaiah 9:1, 2

If you look at the context of this prophecy, it is speaking of the ministry of the Messiah, whose major area of ministry will be within the territories of Zebulon and Naphtali.  In the New Testament Yeshua ministered in those two tribal territories.  Nazareth was within the territory of Zebulon and Capernaum was within the territory of Naphtali.  In this way, the prophecy was literally fulfilled.
